ANDOVER, Mass.—WSI ( Weather Services International) expects the upcoming period (August-October) to average warmer than normal across most of the US, with the exception of parts of the Southeast and California coastal cities. The WSI seasonal outlooks reference a standard 30-year normal (1971-2000).
“”The combination of a newly-emerg-
ing La Nina event, a relatively cold
north Pacific, and a record warm north
Atlantic are quite bullish for a very
warm late summer and early fall peri-
od,” said WSI Chief Meteorologist Dr.
Todd Crawford. On the other hand,
very high soil moisture levels across
the Plains, along with a lack of any sig-
nificant drought conditions in the US,
will temper the overall magnitude of
the heat a little. For the August-Octo-
ber period as a whole, we are forecast-
ing 571 population-weighted cooling
degree days, 15% more than both last
year and the 1971-2000 mean.”
JERSEY CITY, N.J./LEXINGTON, Mass.—ISO “ClaimSearch” has joined with Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) to offer a series of instant online weather forensic reports to help insurers evaluate claims related to severe weather conditions. The reports feature key weather data and mapping of hail, lightning strikes, damaging winds, and tornado activity for a specific time period and geographic area and are available through the “Decision Net” claims information portal. Both AER and ISO are subsidiaries of Verisk Analytics.
