Grantees Provide Haiti Relief

International Rescue Committee on the Ground in Haiti

supports local community members as resilient first responders, is partnering with other groups to provide assistance to Haiti community groups and also support to those in the U.S with family and friends in Haiti. Both organizations are seeking additional contributions for these disaster programs.

NEW YORK—The Insurance In-
dustry Charitable Foundation (IICF)
recently awarded grants to two organi-
zations that are now providing relief in
Haiti. The International Rescue Com-
mittee (IRC), with 75 years of exper-
tise in emergency response, has sent a
team of experts to Haiti to provide re-
lief to the devastated country. World
Cares Center, an organization that

“As an industry foundation, we can marshal our resources and make a difference through outstanding organizations like the International Rescue Committee and World Cares Center. IICF is encouraging our member companies to give as generously as they can to the IRC, World Cares Center, or to other reputable relief organizations,” said Elizabeth Myatt, New York executive director of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.

Lisa Orloff, executive director of World Cares Center, explained, “We are connecting with local groups on the ground, such as Housing Works Haiti, who would like to collaborate with World Cares Center. Our missions are kindred, and they report that their experience is that marginalized people are often further marginalized by relief systems. Therefore, helping to coordinate the local population to help themselves is key. We have a four-person team ready, and we are trying to gather $25,000 to deploy.” IICF is interested in learning about all industry support for Haiti relief.
